Located on a steep hillside with a panoramic view of the Channel Islands, this complete remodel of a 1970’s era split level home involved opening-up interior and exterior walls to capture stunning views from virtually every room. Since each room in the original house was surrounded by four walls, only living spaces on the view side of the house had access to the views, and even then the glazed openings were limited. Using a network of exposed structural steel columns, braces, and beams, the entire volume of the living space was opened-up so that views could be captured from any angle including through other rooms. The removal of these barriers exposed the various split levels of the living spaces that resulted in a dynamic relationship between the rooms and the stair systems connecting them.
